Directions: Today you will be creating you own scratch art without having to use paint. Roll up your sleeves and get ready to work because this one takes some stamina, but it is well be worth the work.

Step 1: Take you paper and fold it in half, then fold it in half again like the examples below. Open the paper all the way up and you will see 4 lines that create 4 sections. Cut on these lines so you are left with 4 pieces of paper. You will use one piece for this project, but you can also repeat the activity 3 more times after if you find that you really enjoy it.

Step 2: You will want to lay down your extra piece of scrap paper or messy mat and place 1 of the small squares down. The messy mat is there just to catch your mess. Then color the background any color you want. You need to leave as little white space as possible and the more colors you use the better. It is okay if this looks messy.

Step 3: Next, you will color over the whole thing with a black crayon. Trust me!!! You are not going to ruin it. This is what will make the magic happen. Color over the paper in different directions. If you look over my example, you will see that I colored the whole thing one way and then I colored the whole thing in a different direction. Again, this doesn't need to look perfect, just use your finger muscles and color as many black layers as you can.

Step 4: Here's the magic baby!! You will use your toothpick or sharp object to draw a picture by scrapping away the top layer of black crayon to reveal the colored crayon behind it. The more black you remove the cooler your picture will look. This is done by scraping bigger spaces.
